Warranties
A roof warranty typically has two parts. The manufacturer (product) warranty covers the shingles themselves against factory defects for a specified period. The workmanship (installer) warranty covers the quality of the installation, ensuring any issues caused by improper work are corrected.
Manufacturer warranties often include:
- Limited Lifetime coverage for as long as the original owner lives in the home, with payout amounts changing over time.
- Non-prorated period (usually 10–15 years) with full material coverage if a defect is proven.
- Wind warranty up to the rated speed (after sealing and if installed to spec).
- Algae warranty against black streaks for 10–15 years (appearance only).
- Impact-resistant shingle coverage for hail resistance, though hail damage is generally an insurance claim, not a product defect.
Not typically covered:
- Poor ventilation, ice dams, improper installation, or damage from third-party work.
- Storms exceeding the shingle’s rating or leaks from old/reused flashings.
- Installation over bad or soft decking when a full tear-off was required.
